When is the best time to assess my child's teeth?
We encourage parents to bring their children with them to their appointments as early as age two, or if they have specific concerns. Early detection and management of problems such as thumb sucking, breathing issues or allergies can prevent problems with the development of the jaws and alignment of the teeth as the child grows.Breathing problems in particular can have a major impact on teeth. Having a good, open upper airway and being able to breathe freely through the nose with the mouth closed provides the most efficient means of breathing and obtaining oxygen. It is also extremely important for development of a well-formed oral environment, including proper spacing and alignment of the teeth and jaws. For information on the types of problems that can occur check out http://www.iaom.com/iaom_parents.html.
