The Nutrition Connection

Dr. Weston Price clearly showed the role nutrition played in the proper growth and development of the face, jaws and teeth (as well as the whole body). His land mark publication of “Nutrition and Physical Degeneration” and the adjunctive publication “Pottenger’s Cats: A Study in Nutrition” by Dr. Francis Pottenger, among others, documented the physical changes in indigenous populations. Dietary deficiencies are significant contributing factors in many oral and systemic conditions. Indeed, the studies of Dr. Price and others indicate that dental decay and the development of crooked crowded teeth and jaws have been shown to be a result of dietary deficiencies. Dietary assessment and management may help in establishing and maintaining optimum oral and dental health. Indeed, dietary changes may be critical in preventing breakdown of even dentistry’s best efforts.

To assist with this, Sue, RN, our practice nutritionist works with many of our patients and private clients. Food sensitivity testing through Immuno Laboratories (www.betterhealthusa.com), and comprehensive management have helped many of our patients. Many unresolved airway and allergy issues, which can affect growth and development of the jaws and teeth in children, are associated with abherant breathing patterns possibly caused by food sensitivities, and should be screened out.
